GPL stands for General Public License. It is a type of license used for software and other types of works that grants users the freedom to use, study, modify and distribute the work as they see fit. The GPL was created by the Free Software Foundation (FSF) and it is one of the most widely used open-source software licenses. The GPL ensures that users have the right to access, modify, and share software with others, as long as they also distribute the software under the same GPL terms. This means that the software can be improved and built upon by the community, leading to the creation of better, more advanced versions of the software.
